Marginalised communities are more likely to suffer from mental health issues due to poverty, poor healthcare and under-developed housing and local areas. In particular, people working in the education sector – who often have to deal with knife crime, gun crime and poverty – are at greater risk of experiencing extreme stress in their lives.

Within our Mental Health Initiative, The Liberation Initiatives has partnered with Bupa Foundation, an independent charity funded by Bupa, on its Wellbeing for Educators programme. Within this partnership, The Liberation Initiatives helps Bupa Foundation to target key Educator communities who may be at risk of suffering from poor mental health and invite them to join free 90-minute Wellbeing sessions.

During these sessions, Educators are helped by Bupa Foundation and TLI to understand what may be negatively affecting their mental wellbeing and the potential effects of this. They are then given the knowledge, tools and guidance to help combat this and boost their overall mental health.  By guiding Bupa Foundation on who to target and why, The Liberation Initiatives is supporting the mental health of vital Educators, who can in turn become better equipped to positively affect the mental wellbeing of the marginalised communities they support.

A further partnership within our Mental Health Initiative is a consultancy to Prostate Cancer UK to heighten the awareness of how the disease currently affects the Black community.  Today, 1 in 4 Black men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, a fact that means they are more likely to get the disease than any other men, who have a 1 in 8 chance of getting it.

The Liberation Initiatives advises the organisation on partnerships to help penetrate the Black community and spread important messages about the risk of Prostate Cancer, as well as why and how to get checked.

By supporting The Liberation Initiatives with this partnership, you can help reduce the risks to the Black community of being affected by this deadly disease.
